ODINA HEARTACHE

Ever since we heard Odina’s captivating, uniquely textured voice in ‘I’ll Carry You’, we haven’t been able to shake its emotive effect. The way in which she portrays those earnest feelings has a long-lasting impact and we certainly can’t ignore that in the new single ‘Heartache’. It’s an alt-pop construction of Americana undertones and orchestral shapes that eagerly lend themselves to Odina’s resounding honesty. In the same way that the instrumentation unravels in a contained flurry, so did Odina’s lyrics when she first sat down to write ‘Heartache’. As the Catalan musician tells us: "I wrote ‘Heartache’ after going through a breakup. At the time there was just a lot pouring out of me, I think it took 30 minutes to write - it was just one of those songs that felt like it wrote itself." The new song also comes with a cinematic music video directed by acclaimed Spanish actor Alex Muruny, which encapsulates the world-altering feelings of turmoil following a break up, via the use of surreal Lynchian-esque images and strong aesthetics akin to Odina’s creative process. ‘Heartache’ will also feature on the upcoming album, What I Never Told You, to be released August 21st. - Hannah Thacker
